First Impressions:

Borghese Tono Body Cream

I am not really sure what to do with or think about this body cream. It’s thick-ishly rich and it smells, but not pleasantly, more… funny. It sinks into the skin relatively quickly, which is a good thing, no greasy residue.
That’s all I can say about it, really…

Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint SPF 20 – Golden

More than twice the size of the sample I received from Birchbox a couple of months back.

Jouer Luminizing Tint (2)_edited-1_256
Alas, this time the color is Golden, not Pearl. I generally like the subtle shimmer this tinted moisturizer provides.

That’s another advantage point for Birchbox – while you don’t always get what you wanted, at least I have never received a color that did not go with my skin tone or a product that did not go along with the texture of my hair.

Sisley Hydra Globa Intense Anti-Aging Hydration

A quick glance at the price for a full-sized bottle makes me hope that I don’t love this cream – $250 for 1.4 oz. Really? For this price you better turn me into a young Cindy Crawford, if only temporarily.

vbeauté Eye Never Nourishing Repair Eye Crème

Funny name. When it’s written down like that it suggests that this eye cream promises to never nourish as it’s repairing. Weird. It’s a teeny tiny sample.

Vincent Longo Duo Eye Pencil – Lavender Lite & Grape

I have never heard of Vincent Longo, but I must say I like this lip liner. It’s full size.
The colors are great, very versatile. Lavender Lite is a neutral nude color, and Grape is, surprise, a grape color.
I had wondered why the nude color is called Lavender – seeing as lavender is generally more violet than nude, and on closer inspection, there is a slight hint of lavender shimmer when applied, giving the color some nice depth. That’s a good thing, because sometimes nudes can look a bit flat. Very nicely done, Vincent Longo! Smile

Value, according to Beauty Bar page:

Borghese Tono Body Cream 1 oz (28 g) $ 4.35
Sisley Hydra Global 0.14  oz (4 ml) $ 25.00
vbeauté Eye Never Nourishing Eye Cream 0.033 fl oz (1 ml) $ 5.67
Vincent Longo Duo Lip Pencil 0.064 oz (1.81 g) $ 26
Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint 0.17 fl oz (5 ml) $ 3.80
_____________
Total:  $ 64.82

That’s undeniably a pretty good value.

Final Thoughts:

There’s always the issue of the actual value, based on the price for the full size product, and the perceived value. Sure, the Sisley cream is valued at $25 for the little sample, but if you’d ask me personally, I could have done without. I know I will never shell out $250 for a cream and a quick research of the product’s ingredients do not impress me either.

On the other hand, I a really impressed with the Vincent Longo Lip Pencil. The colors are really lovely, the pencil is creamy yet has some staying power. I like. Smile

I think I will stick with Sample Society a bit longer. In my book, though, Birchbox is still my number one. Their perks program along with their generally very good consideration of my beauty profile makes them unbeatable.

Have you tried any of the products in this month’s Sample Society Box?

If you’re not familiar with Sample Society or Birchbox:
Sample Society and Birchbox are monthly sampling programs; one month of the Sample Society box costs $15, one month of Birchbox costs $10 – each including shipping.
Sample Society issues a coupon code for $15 off a $50 purchase. Birchbox has a very attractive feedback / reward program with which you can shop on their site.
Since I have received questions about the programs, I think will make separate, more detailed post about them and eventually link to it in a FAQ section.
